Salvation Army Bellringing Program
The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne has volunteered for the Salvation Army for 10 plus years, ringing the bells at the Safeway on 7th Street, always the Saturday before Christmas.
Over 15 Rotarians per year volunteer their time, braving the cold weather. We even have one of Santa's Elf's (Marla) help us raise money. The Red Kettle campaign, first started in San Francisco in 1891, has traditionally been the Salvation Army’s most prominent fund-raiser. In 2008, the campaign raised over $130 million in communities nationwide where the money was deposited into the kettles. The funds raised help support many of the 37 million people in poverty who turn to the Salvation Army for food and toys at Christmas, utility and homeless assistance, senior and child care, drug abuse treatment and many other social service needs.
