Glasses and a Buck
The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne collects used prescription glasses that are recycled through an organization which operates a clinic within several towns in Mexico. Most of the residents in these towns are in need of proper eye wear but lack the money to obtain them through normal channels. This program allows these individuals to obtain a pair of prescription glasses free of charge providing there is a pair with their required prescription. The clinic provides free exams to the residents and will provide the free glasses if available. To help with the cost of this project, the organization requested that the donor of the glasses attach a dollar bill to each pair of glasses. This program has been such a big success that the program is being expanded to other countries that have similiar areas where people's welfare can be drastically improved simply by being able to obtain the proper prescription eye wear.
