Fredericktowne Rotary Opens Fund at Community Foundation

Community Foundation Trustee George Lewis congratulates Rotary Club of Fredericktowne Past President Nettie DellaPenna, President Michael Kurtianyk and President Elect Robert Linthicum on the establishment of The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne Fund.

Frederick, Maryland: July 14, 2006:  True to its mission of service above self, Frederick County’s evening Rotary Club turned to The Community Foundation of Frederick County to start The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne Fund to support charitable endeavors. As a donor-advised fund, the Rotary Club of Fredericktowne will enjoy the flexibility of recommending which charitable causes or nonprofits to assist through this new fund, pending approval from the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.  Preference will be given to awarding scholarships to Frederick County students and providing grants to Frederick County organizations from The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne Fund. To learn more about the Rotary Club of Fredericktowne, visit www.fredericktownerotary.org.

“The Community Foundation of Frederick County has a long tradition of working with Frederick County’s Rotary clubs. Both the Rotary Club of Frederick and the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek already have funds with us, and we are very pleased and honored to now hold a fund for the Rotary Club of Fredericktowne to help them carry out their charitable activities throughout our community,” shares Community Foundation Chairman D. Hunt Hendrickson.

A donor-advised fund is one of several fund types available through the Community Foundation. For the past 20 years, the Community Foundation has worked with individuals, families, businesses, nonprofits, civic organizations, and service clubs—like Rotary—to establish funds that best capture their specific charitable dreams. While each fund exists to enhance the local quality of life by providing grants and scholarships, to date that has collectively amounted to more than $15 million in awards from over 550 funds.   To learn more about the various fund types available to start a new fund with the Community Foundation, visit the web site at www.cffredco.org or call 301.695.7660.

Contributions to The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne Fund are accepted in any amount at any time.  Checks may be made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County and sent to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland, 21701.  Insert “The Rotary Club of Fredericktowne Fund” in the check’s memo line.  Donations are also accepted online using Visa or MasterCard through the Community Foundation’s web site at www.cffredco.org by clicking on “Contribute” in the upper right-hand corner. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.  Source: Linda Smiroldo, Public Relations Director for The Community Foundation of Frederick County, MD, Inc.  Photo will be added when available.

Parkway Elementary School Homework Club – As part of Rotary International’s effort to promote and support literacy, the Club is ordering 48 dictionaries for the 3rd graders at Parkway.  When the dictionaries arrive, distribution will be coordinated.  In addition, a project has been discussed to videotape the children and parents of Parkway students talking about the benefits of the Rotary mentoring program.  The video will then be played at one of our meetings to motivate more of our members to volunteer their time at the school.  Project will begin once school has started in the fall.

Oktoberfest 2006 - There is a need for early sponsorship identification and contact (goal total to be about $35,000, of which $18,000 has been pledged as of July) so that we maximize our profits from this event. Members also need to come up with unique ways that will make attendees “empty their pockets” and work on the specific need for someone to sponsor a raffle for a trip to Germany. All committees will remain pretty much as they were last year.
