Parkway School Homework Club
Once again, the Rotary Club of Fredericktowne's signature project is a grant program for mentoring a group of 20 at-risk 3rd, 4th and 5th graders selected by the staff at Parkway Elementary School. The grant pays for the two teachers who are in charge of the program and snacks for the students. At least two Members of the Club volunteer as mentors at Parkway Elementary on Monday through Thursday between 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. most weeks thoughout the school year.
The Club Members work with the students when they need assistance with their homework assignments in math, social studies, vocabulary words, and reading along with other subjects. The students appreciate the mentoring help and enjoy the interaction with the Club members. Through the years of sponsoring this program, the results of improvement by the homework club paticipants have been recognized by higher student placement in their Parkway and State of Mayland test scores.
